The fifth season of
Kaun Banega Crorepati got its first crorepati winner on Tuesday
when Sushil Kumar from Motihari, Bihar, won the bumper prize of
Rs. 5 crore on the show.
Sushil, 28, is a modest computer operator
drawing a monthly salary of Rs. 6,000. He also
gives computer lessons at a local institute in Motihari. "I never thought in
my wildest of dreams I could do this," he said, after winning the prize. The
episode, shot in Mumbai, got everyone on the sets in a jubilant mood as
Sushil started inching towards the jackpot. He steadily and intelligently
answered most of the questions and saved his lifelines for the end. On the
set, Sushil was accompanied by his wife Seema. They got married just five
months back.
The young couple was moved to tears when
Amitabh Bachchan handed Sushil his cheque of Rs.
5 crore. Even
Big B was extremely excited about Sushil's winning. "You have created
history. Your grit and determination has made you come so far in this show,"
Bachchan said.
"I am speechless. I am not able to think or
react now. This is surely a dream come true but it is something that is yet
to sink in. I hope my victory will inspire people living in small towns of
Bihar," an overwhelmed Sushil said. Sushil made wise moves while answering
the questions. His deftness and presence of mind saw him cross all the
hurdles until he got stuck at the thirteenth question, which was about the
colonial power that withdrew its involvement from the Nicobar Island in
1968.
Sushil was doubtful about the answer so he
made use of two of his lifelines - Phone a Friend and Double Dip - and came
up with the answer that won him the dream amount. As a youngster, Sushil
wanted to take the civil services exams. He wanted to come to Delhi and
prepare for the exams. However, he could not do so as he was unable to
afford the expensive coaching classes in the Capital. Now, after having won
the bounty, Sushil plans to enroll himself at a prominent coaching institute
in Delhi and start preparing for his dream job.
But the first thing that he plans to do with
the prize money is get a wellfurnished house for his wife, who has always
dreamt of living in a lofty apartment. For the time being, though, Sushil is
enjoying the attention showered by the media on him.
