Enamel paint is a type of paint that can come in several finishes. Most predominantly, enamel paint has a glossy or polished look. It can also have an opaque or rather obscure finish. A common feature with all enamel paints is that they are hard, durable and washable. Due to these qualities, enamel paints are used on a wide variety of surfaces.

Enamel paints are any that are hard, washable and usually glossy. They can be oil-based or alkyd-based, which dry slower and harder than water-based enamels. Oil-based paints have a strong solvent odor, and all cleanup is done with paint thinner or mineral spirits. Water-based (also called latex or acrylic) paints are easier to use, dry faster and have a fairly low odor. Enamels may also be urethane or polyurethane, in either water or a solvent base. Enamels typically come in several sheens, from eggshell or low-luster to satin, semigloss and high-gloss. Specialized enamels, often faster-drying, are used for painting appliances and flooring. Some enamels are heat-resistant.

The fact that enamel paint is very durable and easily washable makes it ideal to be used on certain areas in the kitchen that are frequently exposed to common dirt and stains.

Using enamel paint to paint door and window edges is very popular. The borders and edges when painted with enamel paint look nice while also having the benefit of being long-lasting

Enamel paint is also used in bathrooms. Bathrooms by nature are made up of shiny utilities and tiles, so glossy enamel matches up well when used in these spaces. It can be used on window and door sills or borders. Enamel paint can also be used to paint any cabinets or other furniture used to store bathroom items.

Enamel paint is ideal for wood and metal surfaces, and this makes it popular with many. Besides the advantages mentioned above, it is also easy to apply by any means, including a paintbrush, roller or even spray. This makes it even more practical and popular.

Enamel paints can be applied by brush, roller or spray equipment, depending on the type of paint and purpose. Follow label directions for application methods and drying time, and remember that in almost all cases, several thin coats are better than one or two thick coats.
