The Profession: Major departments in a hotel that require management professionals are the Front OffIce Department, Food and Beverage Department, the House Keeping Department and the Restaurant. These are also the areas of specialization offered in the Hotel Management Programme. Food and Beverages deals with the preparation of food and beverages. The front Office is the nerve centre of the hotel. Front Office Management involves the reception and hospitality , allotment of rooms, billing and organising the transport and communication requirements for guests. Training Programme: The Hotel Management programme usually commences after the +2/equivalent level. Diploma and Degree courses are offered. Diploma courses after +2 are of 3 years duration. graduates can enroll for Diploma programmes of 1 year. The Degree programmes of 4 years duration are open to those who have completed +2/equivalent course.
Training involves theory and practical sessions. Subjects include hotel accountancy, front office management, food and beverages, sales and marketing, economics, foreign language study, personnel and organisational behaviour. Theoretical knowledge is supported by practical training sessions in various departments of a hotel.
Selection: It is usually based on an entrance test, group discussions and interview.
Eligibility: 10+2 with 50 % marks and upper age limit of 22 years.
