CEO (Chief Executive Officer) is a top-ranking corporate position, responsible for overseeing operations. Often the company's president, the CEO reports to the chairman of the board and board members

the CEO is the most important spokesperson for the company and is responsible for quarterly results. The CEO is also, typically, the best paid member of the company

The responsibilities of an organization's CEO are set by the organization's board of directors or other authority, depending on the organization's legal structure.

Typically, the CEO/MD has responsibilities as a director, decision maker, leader, manager and executor. The communicator role can involve the press and the rest of the outside world, as well as the organization's management and employees; the decision-making role involves high-level decisions about policy and strategy. As a leader of the company, the CEO/MD advises the board of directors, motivates employees, and drives change within the organization. As a manager, the CEO/MD presides over the organization's day-to-day operations.

According to a study by Carola Frydman of MIT, from 1936 to the early 2000s there has been a rapid increase in the share of CEOs holding an MBA; from approximately 10% of CEOs in 1960 to more than 50% by the end of the century. Earlier in the century, top executives were more likely to have technical degrees in science and engineering or law. As of 2014, there were 24 female CEOs in Fortune 500 companies, which was a record 4.8%.

CEOs can work at a wide variety of businesses, from small startups to corporations with thousands of employees. This can lead to a lot of stress, particularly since many CEOs must put in overtime on a regular basis. Travel may also be needed for the job.

Job Requirements
A bachelor's or master's degree in the business sector is a common requirement for chief executive officers. They typically must first take a lower managerial position and work their way up within a corporation, accumulating several years of experience.

Qualities Needed to Become a CEO

Must have excellent leadership skills to direct the business
Be able to look at the business as a whole. They need to be able to link together various factors of the business
Great vision in order to foresee beneficial factors for the business. They may be required to make decisions and take actions based on this
Must be able to have the courage to make changes and lead them
Hold high standards of ethics, even under pressure
Self-awareness
Resourcefulness with all materials available

Becoming a CEO

Gain the right experience by look for line jobs in a business, rather than staff jobs. Businesses rely on line jobs as they find the customers and maintain their custom
Say yes to those in senior positions. By listening to the request, suggesting a solution and helping solve it sooner than expected, will impress
Show others that you appreciate the hard work they do. They will feel more valued in the company and as a result, work harder
Give credit to others where deserved as they will feel fairly recognised in their efforts. It will also make them respect you for not stealing their credit
Send personal messages through handwritten notes. Personal communications will differentiate you, and show you have good manners.
Do something individualistic to make yourself stand out. This will give you a certain self-elitism
Spend an hour a day reviewing your goals to plan how to get things done
Don’t smoke as many consider it to be a self-centred interest
Never take work home from the office, so you can spend time with your family
Fill in any “data gaps” by talking to your customers and finding out what they really want
Make sure you look the part by keeping up your appearance and maintaining your health
