Ranjani Rajendra:A new app, Peach, makes it possible for people to store medical records on their phone for easy access

A doctor’s appointment is due and you’re hunting all over the house for that previous medical report or prescription. Or you have to have your prescription filled out, but cannot find it. Happens to the best of us, right? That is where Peach steps in — a new health app launched by Chennai-based entrepreneur Harsh Rajan and his team at pH networks.

A cloud service, the app lets users upload important medical records — prescriptions, test results, medical schedules and even scans — onto the app for future reference. The idea struck Harsh, when his mother met with an accident last year and the family found it difficult to handle his father’s medication schedule. “My mother would usually handle my father’s medication; but with her condition, we found it difficult to get a grip on what he was supposed to take and when. That proved to be a trigger for Peach,” says Harsh, founder of pH networks, adding, “People invariably segregate their prescriptions and medical records in plastic bags. It is then up to the doctor to go through all of this, go back in time and figure out the patient’s medical history. Wouldn’t it be simpler to have all this data on a single platform? Peach can be easily accessed by the patient, doctors and caregivers. All one needs is a basic smartphone.”

The app lets users take photographs of their medical records and prescriptions, which are then compressed and converted into schedules that send out reminders about medication timings and lets users, share their medical information with their doctor. This, Harsh says, works well for patients, when their records are retained by the hospital and want a second opinion. “We also have an in-app messaging service that allows doctors and patients to interact in-between consultations,” explains Harsh.
